Hey John,
This Saturday, January 18th, is the Women's March in San Francisco! Many DxE activists will be there participating and doing outreach for animal liberation as well. In honor of the march and so that more people can attend it, WE ARE NOT HOSTING THE MEETUP AT ARC THIS SATURDAY. Instead join us for the Meetup at the Women's March. We're meeting in front of the San Francisco Public Library on Larkin St at 11am for free donuts and hangout before the march starts! Check the event page for updates. If you're interested in getting more involved in this active community, apply to become a chapter member at dxe.io/apply.
Here are the other events we have happening this week (all taking place at the Berkeley Animal Rights Center, 2425 Channing Way, unless otherwise noted). Action events are colored in blue and community events are colored in orange -- both are crucial to our movement!

The San Francisco Commission of Animal Control and Welfare will be voting on a resolution to support the activists facing charges in Sonoma County. If it passes, it would go to the full board of supervisors for a vote. Passing this resolution could help us establish the right to rescue animals! We want to show that people care about this issue. We will be attending their meeting and speaking in support, and we need YOU there! Please wear a blue DxE shirt and meet us at 1Dr Carlton B Goodlett Pl, San Francisco, CA 94102, room 408.
- Saturday, Janaury 18th, 11:00am - DxE Outreach at the Women's March - Direct Action Everywhere SF Bay Area will join the Women’s March San Francisco's 4th Rally & March in solidarity with their cause. We will be handing out leaflets and getting folks involved in the animal rights movement. - Saturday, January 18th, 1:00pm: Volunteer with Chickens Microsanctuary Workday - Help keep our rescued hens safe and happy by fueling yourself with vegan pancakes and improving their living setup. This is a great event if you want to meet rescued animals and learn what it takes to care for them. Just being present, normalizing compassion towards chickens, and socializing the hens is a huge help! We're conveniently located in Berkeley, CA, near the corner of Dwight and Sacramento with loads of street parking. Address: 1515 Dwight Way, Berkeley, CA 94703
- Saturday, January 18th, 1:00pm: How to Change the World in One Generation - DxE Intro Workshop - Right now the most vulnerable individuals are being exploited on a massive scale and it will only get worse if we don’t take action now. But can we as average citizens really make a difference to help them? The answer is YES. In Direct Action Everywhere’s workshop, you will learn the history of social movements, the ground-breaking new research that shows the power of ordinary people, and the bold plan to nonviolently abolish the most harmful industry on earth that kills billions of animals every year. This interactive workshop was created by DxE co-founder and former Northwestern law professor Wayne Hsiung. After this workshop you will have the tools to begin taking high impact action with thousands around the world to create historic change by saving billions of lives.
- Sunday, January 19th, 10:00am: Guest Speaker: Forest Defense and Climate Action - Come hear from an activist who, like us, confronts corporate power through direct action, but in the service of stopping deforestation. Olive is part of Earth First! Humboldt. Earth First! Humboldt resists logging operations in the Mattole watershed in Northern California. Mattole blockaders have been sitting in tripod road blockades, living on platforms in the branches of trees, and locking themselves to gates, trucks and to each other to block logging roads and sawmill entrances. Olive and several others were arrested, some multiple times, for their efforts to preserve wildlife and combat climate change. Olive is a Berkeley native and a big fan of DxE. We'll watch a short documentary on her group's work, hear from Olive and chat with her about movement tactics. This is a great opportunity to learn from another movement that is an ally in the fight to stop corporate exploitation of the planet and all of its inhabitants, and to start to build solidarity between our movements. Join us!
- Sunday, January 19th, 1:00pm: Part 1 - Beginner Open Rescue Training - Learn the skills it takes to become an open rescue investigator. You'll learn how to identify and research a target, how to create a team, photo and video tips, animal care basics, and so much more!!! This training will be packed with lots of valuable information so come prepared to take notes.
