Friend,
Less than a week into 2023, the new Republican-led House of Representatives is already a circus—which makes it a great time to point out that this year's leaders on the climate front won't be in Congress, they'll be in governors' offices across the country.
The investments from the IRA are already making their way to the states, and now newly-elected governors, re-elected governors, and sitting governors alike must all resolve to make climate action a centerpiece of their 2023 agendas.
Our latest memo outlines four new year's resolutions governors can make to go further, faster on climate action in 2023. Will you read and share with your community today?
The IRA is providing over $50 billion directly to states, and states will also play a key role in supporting local governments, businesses, and community organizations to ensure effective and equitable implementation. As these federal investments lower the cost of transitioning to clean energy, now is also the time for governors to build on the progress we secured in 2022 by enacting bold state policies to accelerate a just and inclusive clean energy transition.
If they succeed, it'll mean more money in our pockets, cleaner air in our lungs, a more just future, and a fighting chance at avoiding the worst impacts of the climate crisis. Help us spread the word by reading and sharing our new memo today.
Thanks for never giving up on this fight. Happy New Year!
Onward,
Justin Balik
