John,
Two years ago today, we all watched in horror as an angry mob stormed our nation’s Capitol Building in Washington, D.C.
It was a violent, deadly insurrection — and it was the result of lies and conspiracies Donald Trump spread about the 2020 election.
Instead of respecting the will of the people, Donald Trump riled up his far-right base and instigated the most dangerous assault against our democracy in modern history.
And unfortunately, instead of condemning this behavior, the most extreme Republicans have adopted it as their newest political strategy.
Here in Arizona, Kari Lake and other 2022 statewide candidates — the losing Republican candidate in the race for Secretary of State, Mark Finchem, and the losing GOP candidate in the race for Attorney General, Abe Hamadeh — have all copied Trump’s desperate tactic of refusing to concede and are continuing to spread baseless lies about their respective races.
It’s clearer than ever: The far-right’s attempts to sow distrust in our elections are not going anywhere. I’m going to keep fighting back, and I hope you will, too.
Today, as we reflect on the events of two years ago, we must redouble our efforts to protect our democracy. The sham lawsuits, disinformation, and attacks against our democracy cannot continue.
That’s why as Governor, I am ready to work hand in hand with all Arizonans to ensure our fundamental rights are protected and our elections are fair and secure.
That way, together, we can put an end to the baseless lies and extremism that threaten our democracy.
— Katie
