After paying the same royalty rate for more than 100 years, Big Oil
companies are finally paying a higher and more fair rate for drilling on
public lands.

Katie’s bill to raise rates on polluters passed as part of the Inflation
Reduction Act, and kicked into effect on the first of the year.

Because fossil fuel companies were still paying the low rates of decades
past, taxpayers were essentially subsidizing Big Oil—the same Big Oil
companies who are reporting record profits and making billions. And these
companies continued to have little regard for the environment and the
effect their drilling has had.
