Two years ago today, Donald Trump incited a violent mob to raid the Capitol and stop a peaceful transfer of power.

In the aftermath of this tragic attack on our nation, the Jan. 6 panel got to work to uncover the truth of what happened. Just last month, the committee recommended that the Department of Justice prosecute Trump and five of his allies for crimes ranging from inciting insurrection to conspiracy to defraud the United States.

This is a decisive step toward holding Trump accountable, but it's not over yet. Whether Trump and his allies face charges is up to the Justice Department. Worse, many of Trump's allies who helped orchestrate or support the insurrection are still in power.

Jan. 6, 2021, was one of the darkest days in our nation's history.
