Two years ago, members of far-right groups, along with hundreds of civilians indoctrinated by former President Donald Trump’s “Big Lie”, stormed the U.S. Capitol. Their motive: to dismantle the peaceful, democratic transfer of power by stopping the certification of President Joe Biden’s victory.

Make no mistake: former President Trump, who plans to make his bid again for the presidency in 2024, incited the insurrection by these radicalized individuals. Following an extensive investigation into the events of January 6th, the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol declared: 

“…Evidence has led to an overriding and straightforward conclusion: the central cause of January 6th was one man, former President Donald Trump, whom many others followed. None of the events of January 6th would have happened without him.”

As we move into the new year, we remain steadfast in our commitment to our community. We plan to work in close collaboration with elected officials to protect our elections and ensure that we instill policies to prevent future insurrection attempts. We must ensure that we heed the lessons of January 6th to avoid a repeat of unnecessary violence.
