Now welcome to 2023, where we have just elected the 118th Congress. According to the 20th Amendment, Section 2, Congress is supposed to be sworn in on January 3rd at noon. But Republicans are instead kicking off the new year without a strategy or plan. They still cannot agree on who should serve as their speaker.

Under Speaker Pelosi, Democrats delivered for the people time and time again. Now the House is under GOP control, and Republicans are wasting time that could be spent improving the lives of Americans on political theater.

Here’s what we’re learning (again): progressive, powerful female leadership leads to getting work done. It’s clear that we need to continue to elect women into positions of power – Nancy Pelosi never had to go through multiple votes to secure her position.
