Team: NewDem Gerry Connolly here. I've spent the past 14 years fighting GOP extremism in the House. But now, it's worse than ever. Kevin McCarthy has spent every day since the election trying to buy off the most extreme members of his caucus in a desperate attempt to win 218 votes for Speaker. They're demanding veto power over any bill coming to the House, and pledges to shut down the government and default on the national debt if they don't get what they want. They want to be able to defund the FBI and launch show trials based on conspiracy theories. And they want to make sure the next Congress has MORE extremists, not fewer. No matter who the next Speaker is, it's clear that Matt Gaetz and Lauren Boebert will be running the House for the next two years.
