2 years ago, hundreds of Trump-inspired white supremacists attempted a coup by violently attacking the US Capitol.
John, many of these white supremacists have not been held accountable. As a matter of fact, many of them remain in Congress.
The events that transpired on January 6th showed us again what we've known for quite some time: there is an obvious double standard in how police respond to Black Lives Matter protests where we are seeking justice and accountability...
When Black people protest, we are met by military troops or police equipped with assault rifles, shields, tear gas, rubber bullets, and weapons of war. When white people attempt to overthrow the government, they are met by an underwhelming number of police personnel who act powerless to intervene, going so far as to pose for selfies with insurrectionists, and prevent an escalation of anarchy and violence like we witnessed 2 years ago.
We will not forget the events that transpired on January 6th, 2021. And more specifically, the stark contrast between the attempted coup and righteous protest...
Minimal efforts have been made to ensure that this never happens again. Our demands since that day have been abundantly clear: Expel members of Congress who incited the attack and have tried to delegitimize our democratic process. Convict and ban Trump from holding political office. Defund the police. And investigate white supremacy within our institutions.
The longer we go without these demands being met, the more our democracy is threatened. It's time to protect and expand our democracy in the name of Black lives and accountability, and this is exactly where we start. Sign onto our post-coup petition and demand action now >>
