Roy Cooper for North Carolina

John —

Two years ago today, Americans watched stunned and horrified as right-wing insurrectionists overran the United States Capitol. At Donald Trump’s behest, they tried to overturn the results of our presidential election — to steal that choice from the people of this country — and keep Trump in power.

Brave law enforcement officers evacuated lawmakers and retook the Capitol. Congress certified President Biden’s election the same night. The insurrectionists failed.

However, the threat to our democracy is not gone. Those of us who believe in the promise of a government by and for the people must commit ourselves to protect it.

I’ll explain more below, but right now, you need to know that North Carolina Republicans are leading a Supreme Court case that might undermine our democracy further. We’re petitioning SCOTUS to side with democracy in their decision — and we need your support. Click here to sign on >>>

John, my commitment to our democracy is ironclad. Here in North Carolina, I’ve worked hard to strengthen voting rights so that more of us can participate and to prevent radical actors from doing damage to our systems of government.

Right now, NC’s Republican State House leader is actually heading up a lawsuit before the Supreme Court that could fundamentally disrupt democracy as we know it.

Not only could the Moore v. Harper case reinstate an extreme right-wing gerrymander of our legislative districts, but it could also grant state legislatures (like our Republican-controlled legislature) the unchecked authority to decide how federal elections are conducted in their states.

In effect, the legislature could take the ultimate decision away from the voters.

This is beyond the pale, and it must be stopped. I’m once again asking you to sign my petition right away demanding the Supreme Court do its duty and protect our democracy >>>
