2022 was a year marked by extremism.

Armed, hateful people carried out acts of gun violence that ended lives
and traumatized entire communities, from Buffalo to Colorado Springs. We
continued to see armed individuals, particularly far-right extremists and
white supremacists, attend peaceful protests and put our First Amendment
rights in jeopardy. Meanwhile, elected leaders and gun lobby spokespeople
poured fuel on the fire by advocating for policies that pushed their "guns
everywhere" agenda.

2022, however, was also a year of immense hope and progress.

We passed a major gun safety law in Congress for the first time in almost
30 years, got life-saving federal action to stop the spread of ghost guns,
and secured wins in states and cities across the country that will make
communities safer for everyone.

We've shown we have what it takes to stop armed extremism in the U.S. and
get action that saves lives. This year will be no different: [ [link removed] ]Add your

Today is a particularly heavy day in this fight. Two years ago, a violent
mob of armed, far-right extremists stormed and vandalized the U.S. Capitol
in an attempt to overturn the results of the Presidential election.
Members of Congress and their staffers—people who I've worked with for
years—feared for both their lives and for the future of our democracy.
Both law enforcement officers and civilians died as a result of the chaos
enabled by former President Trump, years of conspiracy theories, and weak
gun laws peddled by the gun lobby.

In the two years since that dark day in 2021, we've never backed down from
the threat of armed extremism. And even though we have a lot of work ahead
of us this year, I know together, we'll keep our communities safe and
create a future free from this crisis.

Thank you for being a part of this movement.
