Remembering Willard Gaylin

Hastings Cofounder Explored Ethical Dilemmas in Psychiatry and Society

Willard Gaylin, an acclaimed psychiatrist and psychoanalyst and a pioneering scholar in bioethics who co-founded The Hastings Center, died on December 30. He was 97. A prolific author, Gaylin wrote about psychological themes and issues in ways that made them come alive for public audiences. Read more.


 

National Health Equity Grand Rounds
Series to Explore Racism in U.S. Health Care and Advance Solutions

Join us for the inaugural National Health Equity Grand Rounds event, co-sponsored by The Hastings Center, History of Racism in U.S. Health Care: Root Causes of Today’s Hierarchy and Systems of Power, on Tuesday, February 7, 2-3:30 PM ET. In addition to highlighting root causes of present-day health inequities, speakers will explore opportunities to advance equity through individual, institutional, and structural solutions. Addressing Disability Health Disparities
How to Improve Quality and Equity of Care

A large body of research suggests that discrimination in favor of able-bodied people is deeply entrenched in medicine, leading to disproportionately low equality of care for disabled patients. In a virtual talk on January 18, Joel Michael Reynolds, an assistant professor at Georgetown and a senior advisor at The Hastings Center, discuss the problem and give concrete steps that medical practitioners and others can take to improve quality and equity of care for disabled patients.
