The January 6th insurrection was two years ago today, but make no mistake: the threat posed by the leaders of that insurrection is still very much with us today.
It continues in the voter suppression laws being passed in states nationwide, and in the efforts to let legislatures overturn election results. It was the fuel for hundreds of candidates who proudly embraced the Big Lie in their midterm campaigns.
Fortunately, in critical battleground races across the country, voters rejected one election denier after another in November. That proves the power that the people have when we come together in defense of our democracy.
But while many were prevented from entering office, some election deniers succeeded, and the very leaders who enabled Donald Trump before, during, and after the insurrection are assuming control of the House of Representatives.
That makes our work at CREW to hold Trump and insurrectionists accountable — and all our efforts to make government more ethical and transparent — even more important.
