You’re invited to a brown bag lunch event with AFSCME staff member Sally Tyler about her book, The Durian Chronicles: Reflections on the U.S. and Southeast Asia in the Trump Era.

The book’s essays explore the paradoxical relationship of justice, power and politics in the United States and Southeast Asia. Tyler’s work, some of which has appeared in New Mandala, Policy Forum and Mekong Review, analyzes the U.S. retreat from multilateralism during a time when complex global problems—including climate change, economic inequality and the coronavirus pandemic—require greater collaboration among nations.

Through the lens of a dynamic yet underreported region, Tyler brings a fresh perspective to Trump-era policy reverberations in far corners of the world and argues for greater connectivity in what has become a fractured era.
