Larry Kudlow: A dramatic speech with absolute clarity on issues would help
McCarthy's speakership quest

McCarthy's Commitment to America was very vague and hazy on some very
important key issues, Kudlow says

FOXBusiness| Larry Kudlow

January 5, 2023

As of this reporting, right now, the Kevin McCarthy speaker nomination
balloting is in its ninth iteration. It doesn't look promising. Despite
plenty of midnight meetings, innumerable concessions, spear-throwing on
both sides, personality slurs, and even lately some policy discussions -
how about that? - more on that in a minute - the McCarthy needle has not
moved.

As of this ninth ballot, Mr. McCarthy will go down in history as trying the
modern record of nine ballots set back in 1923 by Calvin Coolidge's man

For over a year leading up to the 2022 election, there was a significant
effort in the House to develop a policy-based framework for what a
Republican majority would do and to positively shape the political
discourse for the election. This framework was developed by House
Republican Member task forces working on specific issue areas. The result
was a policy document named "The Commitment to America" that was released
in September prior to the election.

The Winning the Issues post-election survey of midterm voters (November
6-8, 1000 registered voters who voted in the 2022 midterm elections for
Congress) asked if a respondent had "seen, read or heard anything about a
policy agenda called the Commitment to America." The survey did not
associate it with a political party so that voters would not respond based
on the party label. [3]Read more here
