Neither Hero Nor Iconoclast – Just Media Hounds

Many are casting the twenty standing in the way of Kevin McCarthy’s election as Speaker of the House as heroes, but heroism involves sacrifice.  What are they sacrificing?  Others are casting them as iconoclasts, but they battle no sacred thing, they are simply obstructionist.  Instead, they are simply Gilderoy Lockhart (a Harry Potter character) stealing accomplishment while accomplishing nothing.

I, like everyone else that was watching Monday Night Football last night after gorging on college football all day, wish all the best to and am praying for Damar Hamlin who suffered some sort of cardiac event on field early in the game.  But why, after Mr. Hamlin was properly seen to and taken to appropriate medical facilities, was the game postponed?  I know, I know, I am a heartless old curmudgeon – but hear me out.

Democracy and the Hive Mind

Socialistic ideas, from Obamacare to the “we are all responsible for each other’s health” approach to the pandemic to student loan forgiveness are gaining more and more traction.  Social media builds social cliques out of ideas instead of shared experience which may account for why socialistic ideas are gaining such traction.  Can democracy survive?
