Duke Energy's coal ash waste has plagued our state for decades.
Last week, North Carolina reached a settlement with Duke Energy that will require the company to dig up almost 80 million tons of coal ash -- the largest coal ash clean-up in American history.
I am so proud of the public servants at the Department of Environmental Quality and of my lawyers who represented DEQ in this matter for their hard work to achieve this important resolution.
Every North Carolinian deserves clean water and a safe environment.
This settlement is certainly progress, but my team and I are not finished yet. I will not stop fighting for our natural resources.
