Can Bipartisan Immigration Reform Gain Steam in 2023 After Failing in 2022? - 2022 concludes another year of little to no meaningful immigration reforms while the urgency and need for them increased. With an unprecedented number of illegal border crossings, a ballooning all-time high backlog of two million immigration court cases, an inflationary workforce shortage with nearly twice as many open US jobs as unemployed Americans, and DACA in limbo, the 26-year inaction by lawmakers is disappointing to say the least. However, that is not to say there is no hope and no lawmakers who are working toward solutions. There were some sensible immigration bills and legislative frameworks that were introduced in 2022 which lawmakers can follow up on this year. 

How Pro-Growth Policies Can Avert a Fiscal Crisis - According to Representative Jody Arrington, economic growth will play a critical role in improving the long-term trajectory of our nation’s budgetary woes. Balancing our budget will require an unusual display of political will and fiscal constraint, but it must be paired with commonsense strategies that incentivize business investment, job creation, and work. A healthy and growing economy is essential for paying our bills, maintaining market confidence, and improving our debt-to-GDP in the long run. If we grow our economy while controlling spending, we have a better chance of putting our country on a sustainable fiscal path and avoiding a financial crisis.

Cornyn, King Bill to Support Students’ Mental Health, Promote School Safety Signed into Law - Senators John Cornyn and Angus King release statements after their Behavioral Intervention Guidelines (BIG) Act legislation to help identify how educators can best implement behavioral intervention programs to identify and address early signs of potential violence among students, was signed into law.
