Friend — 2022 saw amazing progress in the fight against pollution!
Here’s a report back on all that happened this past year, and where we need to focus our efforts on next. To stay updated on this work, please follow our Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and Tiktok for the latest news!
In 2022 we had BIG wins: -
The California Legislature passed crucial bills that will establish 2,500 feet setback requirements on oil wells, end neighborhood oil drilling, ban the use of captured carbon to enhance oil drilling, and significantly reduce plastic pollution.
- The Department of Toxic Substances Control created a plan to expand its accountability and reform its programs.
- A month ago the South Coast Air Quality Management District passed an Air Quality Management Plan that prioritizes a transition to zero-emissions technology without dependence on fossil fuels.
Despite these incredible wins, there were also some critical bills that did not pass that would have: - protected Californians’ drinking water
- improved air quality in the Central Valley
-
ensured environmental justice representation on the South Coast Air Quality Management Board
- closed loopholes to minimize oil and gas drilling along our coast.
These fights are critical to our work at EnviroVoters Ed Fund. Eliminating Toxics and Pollution is a core policy area in our Policy Roadmap, the guide we released last year with a set of solutions to address in order to stop the climate crisis.
In 2023, we will continue our work to realize a future where all Californians have access to clean drinking water and clean air, and one where we put an end to oil and gas drilling. |
