John, did you see the news about Pennsylvania’s House Speaker Election?

IN A DESPERATE POWER GRAB, PA HOUSE REPUBLICANS IGNORE THE WILL OF THE VOTERS -- ACLU Pennsylvania

The Commonwealth’s voters elected a Democratic majority of 102 - 101 to the PA House of Representatives. However, due to three vacancies in safe districts for Democrats, they will not have a voting majority until special elections are held to replace the winning candidates.

In a stunning demonstration of shameless power-grabbing and anti-democratic extremism, the PA GOP planned to use this window to vote in their own Speaker and even delay the special elections to fill those vacancies.

A compromise has been reached and PA’s Speaker of the House is Berks County Mark Rozzi who switched parties from Democratic to Independent, and declares he will not caucus with any political party while serving as Speaker.

This is precisely why our work is so important. The PA GOP prove time and again how far they are willing to go to oppress voters and entrench their minority rule. Can you pitch in $10 today to help us fight back against their nonsense by expanding our majority in the electorate — and the legislature?

That’s not just talk, John. We’re working around the year to uplift the voices of young, immigrant, Black, Indigenous, and other voters of color and flip even more districts, so 3 vacancies in a body of 203 legislators don’t threaten our entire legislative agenda.

Our next step is continuing to expand our staff and outreach in competitive regions like Berks County, where we can bring our expertise to even more districts in which the Commonwealth’s historically suppressed and disadvantaged communities deserve better representation.

In our first full year of operations, as an organization that’s still growing, we made serious, lasting expansions to the electorate and got out the vote in key races. Will you donate $10 right now to help us keep growing our staff and our impact to empower the voice of Pennsylvanians in Harrisburg and DC?

The New Pennsylvania Project was founded in May 2021 to expand Pennsylvania’s electorate, so it reflects the Commonwealth’s demographically changing population. In the next four years, NPP will engage and empower young residents and those living in underrepresented immigrant communities and communities of color. We register communities to vote, provide civic education about the issues that matter in their neighborhoods, and mobilize Pennsylvanians to vote in every election.
