Yes, I’m Having A Fifth Kid. No, I Don’t Need Your Judgment.
[[link removed]]
“When I first saw two pink lines on my pregnancy test
[[link removed]],
I was hit with excitement followed immediately by a sense of dread in telling
others,” writes Alexandra Frost today. “My data set was based on announcing my
fourth child, which was met with strange looks, some head shaking, and general
confusion. People seemed genuinely baffled by why I’d want this many kids
[[link removed]],
on purpose.” And the reactions that followed did bother her — until her husband
said something that put it all into context. Check it out.

January Book Announcement: The Light Pirate by Lily Brooks-Dalton
[[link removed]]
It’s beyond time that Scary Mommy Book Club officially put some science fiction
on our shelves, and this is the perfect start. Set in the not-so-distant future,
The Light Pirate focuses on the life of Wanda, a little girl born during a
hurricane in coastal Florida. Named after the storm that made landfall the same
day she did, her life is colored by the quickly changing climate of her state.
But it’s also affected by the people around her: her grieving father, her
brother, and her neighbor, a middle-aged single woman who understands her better
than anyone else.

As Wanda grows older, and the world around her changes, we watch as she grows
from an unsure girl with untapped potential to a hero of her time, made strong,
smart, and powerful from the tragedy that has surrounded her life from the day
she was born. This can be a tough read at times, but the beautiful writing of
Lily Brooks-Dalton and the spirit of Wanda makes it a journey well worth
taking.

Stay tuned for more details about our author event with Lily Brooks-Dalton,
happening on January 31. In the meantime, join the discussion in our Facebook
