Friend,

We are in week one of the 118th Congress and it’s already an unprecedented session. Typically, the U.S. House holds a vote to choose the Speaker of the House. The Speaker then swears in members of Congress so we can get to work.

Today, an 8th vote was held and we do not have a Speaker.

The infighting going on within the Republican Party is preventing the People’s House from doing our job. This distraction wastes precious time that should be spent on doing what we are elected to do: legislate and govern.

If there is no Speaker, members of Congress cannot be sworn in. We can’t hold committee hearings or vote on legislation. The American people are counting on us to get the job done.

While these past few days have been frustrating for me, my colleagues, and the American people, it is further proof that we have to stand together united. We can move our nation forward, only if we work together, set aside our differences, and put the people of this country first.

We accomplished a lot in the 117th Congress with bipartisan support for critical legislation. I look forward to working across the aisle again this session so we can deliver real solutions that solve real problems.

It’s time to come together and get to work.

Thank you for your support,

Debbie Dingell
