Folks, House Republicans have devolved into complete disarray and have now forced 8 ballots to occur to elect a Speaker.

This is the same Republican House Majority that promised Americans they would deliver for them. Now, they can’t even deliver a leader for their own Party.

By contrast, Democrats have been united on every single vote. This is because we know Americans deserve leadership in the House immediately so we can get to work and do the job we were elected by our constituents to do.

I have to be honest with you – I’ve shouted “Jeffries!” so many times that I’m about to lose my voice.

The Republican Majority has eaten up so much time to figure out their petty drama that I – along with the other Members-elect – haven’t even been sworn in yet. We cannot be sworn in and get to work without a Speaker being chosen.

It took our House Democratic Majority no time at all to begin working for the American people back in 2018 and 2020. And throughout these past few days, we’ve shown through our unity that we’re ready to get to work again.

But here’s the truth: A Speaker will eventually be chosen and Republicans will fight to pass a whole host of far-right legislation aimed at stripping voting rights, dismantling climate protections, and furthering rolling back reproductive freedom. We need to be ready to fight back against them.
