** Traders defy the law to import Myanmar teak ([link removed])

US traders continue to import precious teak from Myanmar despite sanctions against the country’s brutal military junta. EIA’s new report Acts of Defiance details the companies accused, information shared with the US Department of State. Forests Campaign Leader Faith Doherty said: “Sanctions put in place by the US and others are meant to halt the flow of conflict resources such as teak, but we’ve identified several major traders who continue their lucrative teak imports – so far, with impunity.”

** US chemical giant accused of greenwashing ([link removed])

EIA has accused US chemical giant Chemours of peddling “toxic greenwashing” in a bid to prevent the adoption of ambitious EU climate legislation to further restrict the use of fluorinated greenhouse gases, a prominent part of the company’s portfolio.

After almost a decade of campaigning by EIA and other organisations around the world, the EU has finally agreed a new law ensure only deforestation-free and legal products such as palm oil, cattle, timber, coffee, cocoa and soy are imported or exported.
