John,

As Republicans prepare to take over Congress, House Democrats are celebrating their huge wins in tackling climate change.

Back in 2020, the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis released a landmark report of over 700 policy recommendations of what Congress could and should do to fight the climate crisis. By the end of the historic 117th Congress, the Climate Crisis Committee released a final update of their report, which found that nearly half of its policy recommendations have become law.

That’s 300 policy recommendations that are now on the books through laws like the Inflation Reduction Act, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the Energy Act of 2020, and the CHIPS and Science Act.

We simply cannot overstate what a monumental achievement that is in only 2.5 years. The Select Committee on the Climate Crisis deserves tremendous praise for setting out a vision for Congress to follow, and then making sure that vision became a reality.

But guess who isn’t so enamored with the Climate Crisis Committee?

Big surprise: House Republicans.

That’s right. If you needed any other evidence that Republicans cannot be trusted with the fate of our planet, one of their first acts on retaking the House majority has been to shut down the Climate Crisis Committee.

This means that SEEC is our last climate-focused organization in the House that can still play offense on the climate crisis. While signing 300 out of 700 recommendations into law is tremendous, we still need to get the remaining 400 done!

SEEC stands ready to pick up the mantle now that Republicans have dissolved the Climate Crisis Committee. But our SEEC members need you by their side if we’re going to beat back the climate deniers. Can you help protect our progress in the 118th Congress by contributing today to support our SEEC members? [[link removed]]
