** Happy and Healthy New Year 2023!
------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Cultural Survival Community,

I want to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy New Year! We wish you a 2023 filled with good health, joy, abundance, sustainability, and justice.

I also wanted to say thank you for helping us surpass our $250,000 end-of-the-year goal! Together, we raised $290,566 to support Indigenous grassroots efforts!

As we enter 2023, we wanted to share some of our priorities for the year ahead.
1. We will continue to streamline an equitable gender balance approach within Cultural Survival by prioritizing projects that center marginalized groups and working to uplift Indigenous women, youth, and our 2SLGBTQ+ relatives according to Indigenous values and protocols self-determined by Indigenous communities.
2. For Advocacy work, we will continue to advocate for Indigenous Peoples’ rights at the UN level and in other international fora. We will also deepen our work in the area of corporate engagement, especially related to transition mineral mining within the supply chain of the rapidly expanding Electric Vehicle (EV) sector in the transition to the “green economy.”
3. For Capacity Building work, we will continue our curricula for our Indigenous women workshops on human and Indigenous rights advocacy, climate solutions, and land rights, media, and communications. We will continue facilitating cross-cultural exchanges on the topics of grassroots climate solutions and language revitalization along with continuing our fellowship program to also include new residency opportunities to support Indigenous artists, writers, and creatives.
4. For Grantmaking, we will continue our ongoing, long-term financial support to Indigenous communities through our Keepers of the Earth Fund and our Indigenous Community Media Fund to provide resources to grassroots Indigenous organizations, Indigenous governments, and Indigenous media outlets. This support is instrumental in building and strengthening the global Indigenous rights movement.
5. For Communications, some of our future plans include communicating an effective advocacy agenda that supports and mainstreams the rights of Indigenous Peoples to the wider public, highlighting the self-determined agency of Indigenous Peoples, and the important roles Indigenous leadership and knowledge play in solving today’s problems.
6. As we are in the International Decade for Indigenous Languages (2022-2032), we will continue to push for the focus of the Decade to be the creation of new speakers and securing adequate funding for grassroots language efforts.

2023 is the International Year of Millets. “The International Year of Millets ([link removed] ) stands to provide a unique opportunity to increase global production, ensure efficient processing and consumption, promote a better utilization of crop rotations, and encourage better connectivity throughout food systems to promote millets as a key component of the food basket.” Indigenous communities and Indigenous Traditional Knowledge are essential to sustainable development, restoration of biodiversity, mitigation of climate change, and achieving food sovereignty.
Your support ([link removed]) of Indigenous rights has a direct and positive impact! We cannot thank you enough for your partnership.
In solidarity and gratitude,
Galina Angarova (Buryat)
Executive Director
