John, Kevin McCarthy has repeatedly failed to receive a
majority of the votes present on the floor. His own party is fractured
with the Freedom Caucus (a MAGA-GOP caucus) opposing him with eyes on
taking their party even farther to the extreme right.
While this may look like Republicans behaving in the new normal of
self-sabotaging behavior, the historical significance of this is quite
interesting. It's been 100 years since the House had such contention over
a Speaker. In 1923, it took nine rounds for the Speaker vote to reach a
consensus. McCarthy is finding himself in similar territory.
What is also abundantly clear is the lack of organization and commitment
to the job that Republicans are displaying. Their majority in the House
will yield only vengeance rule and self-serving causes that do not address
the issues facing Americans. While the GOP remains fractured over who
shows "true loyalty" to the MAGA cause and who is more moderate, the
American people suffer under an ineffective Congress.
That is why we launched our Take Back the House fund and are beginning the
early stages of organizing to ensure that we have the majority in 2024.

John, there may be no resolution to the votes today. While this
infighting continues, there is a pause on what can get done, including
discussions of crucial legislation. We will remember those that chose to
make a statement and grandstand on hollow lies rather than serve their
constituents.
