This past Tuesday, Rep. Rashida Tlaib was supposed to be sworn into Congress for her next term. But members of Congress can’t be sworn in without a new Speaker of the House. And MAGA Republicans have decided that Rep. Kevin McCarthy (a Trumper himself!) is not extreme enough to be their Speaker.

The Republican Party’s ultra-right-wing flank is showing how much control they have over their caucus and will keep pushing their party even more to the right.

As you likely know, the House of Representatives was investigating January 6th and uncovering the criminal conspiracy to try to overturn the results of 2020’s presidential election. MAGA Republicans already vowed to stop these investigations when in control of the House, and they’re gearing up to silence our voices even more. They’re going to go to greater extremes to try to take away our rights—from voting rights to labor rights to LGBTQ+ rights to environmental justice and more. The new House rules that are being proposed would allow Members to vote to strip funding of a Biden administration's department heads. They are proposing fast tracking pipelines, decreasing funding to the IRS to protect their wealthy donors and a complete stop to asylum cases.

In this new year and with this new Congress, Rashida is ready to fight even harder for the rights of everyday people. Her unwavering commitment to justice has made her a target for attacks from Republican members of Congress, who will escalate their hate as they have more power.
