Providing emergency aid, tackling outbreaks, and more

Dear you,
I recently returned from a visit to Haiti, a country caught in the crossfire of ongoing armed conflict and a deadly cholera outbreak. I visited our trauma center in Port-au-Prince where, day and night, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) staff care for burn victims and treat gunshot wounds, providing emergency care and long-term rehabilitation support. Sadly, a great number of our patients are children.
As we mark the start of a new year and close out our books for 2022, I was inspired to send you a video message to say: thank you so much for making MSF’s lifesaving care possible.
As a non-profit medical humanitarian aid organization, MSF relies on the generosity of independent, grassroots donors to supply our teams around the world with the support they need to hit the ground running in 2023 and stay prepared to save lives at a moment’s notice—and those donors showed up in full force for our 2022 year-end match.
From everyone here at MSF-USA and our nearly 63,000 staff around the world: we are so deeply grateful for this loyal global community.
If you can’t watch a video right now, here’s the gist: MSF’s work would not be possible without you.
The generosity of this community empowers our global staff of nearly 63,000 doctors, nurses, midwives, logisticians, and more with the resources they need to save lives. Those resources will be especially needed as we work to address a variety of complex emergencies:
Conflict and violence in places like Ukraine, Syria, and Somalia have displaced millions of people and cut off many more from essentials like food, water, and medical care;
Climate change is making extreme weather like floods and droughts more frequent and severe, devastating the infrastructure of vulnerable communities, and spurring the spread of climate-sensitive diseases like dengue fever, cholera, and malaria;
Millions of people, from asylum seekers stranded on the US-Mexico border to Rohingya refugees living in the world's largest refugee settlement in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, are cut off from vital medical aid with no clear path forward.
But thanks to this community, there is hope. With staff present in more than 70 countries, we are doubling down on our commitment to provide lifesaving care where and when it’s needed most.
Thank you.
I hope you and everyone you care about are having a safe and joyful new year.
Warmly,
Avril Benoît
