John, thanks to you, we're starting off 2023 with some great
news.

In 2021, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action volunteers drove
almost 100,000 comments to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and
Explosives (ATF) in support of a new rule that would help stop the spread
of ghost guns.

We succeeded—and now, thanks to an open letter sent by the ATF over the
holidays, the impact of that rule is clearer than ever. Gun dealers will
have to mark these handgun parts with serial numbers, and buyers will have
to undergo criminal background checks.

Start this year by celebrating a victory for gun safety: [ [link removed] ]Read and share
this story about how the ATF is continuing to take action to stop the
spread of ghost guns.

This continued action is huge: Ghost guns are one of the fastest growing
threats to gun safety in the country. They allow people who shouldn't have
handguns to easily purchase parts and assemble them at home in a matter of
hours without a background check.

While the rule went into effect in August, this recent step confirms that
the regulation covers the partially finished pistol frames that are being
used to build the illegal guns recovered at crime scenes across the
country in alarmingly increasing numbers.

We still have more work to do to stop this crisis, but because of this
movement's energy and power, our leaders are listening. Together, we're
stemming the tide of these deadly weapons, and making sure bad actors in
the gun industry aren't allowed to subvert our nation's laws.

Thank you for being a part of this victory. I can't wait to celebrate even
more with you this year.
