1) Maybe Congress Needs A Little Chaos
Nobody in Washington seems to understand this, but things aren’t going swimmingly for the country these days. And certainly the reckless behavior of the last Congress under Nancy Pelosi – calls for a major policy and cultural shift on Capitol Hill. When even Republicans are voting for Biden’s trillions… Houston, we have a big problem.
So count us with the conservatives who want to shake things up on Capitol Hill. The gang of anti-Kevin McCARTHY conservatives is being denounced even by some of our good friends as a “chaos caucus." We don’t agree with all their demands - such as vacating the chair. We’re not even fans of some of the rabble-rousers.
BUT. but, conservatives will NEVER have more leverage on the way Congress works (or doesn’t work) than at this very moment.
Yes, the new speaker should insist on a GOP-balanced budget plan over seven or eight years. Yes, the speaker should insist on at least a vote on congressional term limits. We need to rid Washington of professional politicians. Just look no further than at the current “leadership” in Congress.
And we would add most urgently to these demands that there be no budget and no debt ceiling increase – and this should be a non-negotiable demand to the Biden White House – until at least $1 trillion is cut from the budget over the next several years and unbreakable spending caps are installed. This would be an appropriate course of action for any institution or business or household trying to avoid bankruptcy.
If Kevin McCarthy isn’t all in for this fight, he’s not the right one to be Speaker.
Business as usual isn’t working for the country. It's time for radical change in the way Congress operates. If that causes chaos – if that causes heads to roll – we're all for it.
We’d like to hear your opinion.
2) Are We All Going To Starve To Death?
You’ve probably heard that 60 Minutes this past Sunday featured a lengthy interview with the world’s wrongest man: Paul Ehrlich of Stanford and the author of the 1968 mega-bestseller The Population Bomb. That was the book that warned: "In the 1970s hundreds of millions of people will starve to death." He was the world’s first and most influential environmental doomsdayer. The late great Julian Simon famously refuted every Ehrlich claim of a coming planetary Armageddon due to population growth.
But Ehrlich didn’t apologize for being wrong or for the gruesome and inhumane governmental response around the world – including in the U.S. – from his primal scream predictions. His book launched the environmentalists’ murderous population control movement that sanctioned millions of forced abortions, forced sterilizations of girls, one-child policies, and even infanticide. (This is from the people who say they believe in a woman’s right to choose!)
Ehrlich instead doubled down and warned that we would need “five earths” to provide the food and resources to feed “growthmania.” Apparently, he and his apostles think the only way to save the planet is for everyone to get a lot poorer.
Ironically, Ehrlich’s book was published on the eve of the real Green Revolution – which made possible massive increases in food production around the world. In the US today, we produce roughly three times more food with one-third as many farmers and use about one-third less arable land than in 1950. Ehrlich preposterously warned that America was running out of farmland.
Instead of a Malthusian nightmare, food production has outpaced population growth by roughly 75% over the past half-century.
The charts below show this good news story. Famine has never in history been less of a problem than today.
Paul Ehrlich is a scoundrel and an academic fraud – the Bernie Madoff of scientific inquiry. Why would 60 Minutes put him in the spotlight?

3) Why Won’t The Left Admit They Were Wrong About Covid Lockdowns?
And speaking of Stanford, Dr. Scott Atlas, a senior fellow in public health at the Hoover Institute and former Trump administration health advisor, wants to know why the “scientists” got the science so wrong on Covid.
His article in the Wall Street Journal is a must-read:

In November of 2020, the Stanford Faculty Senate condemned Atlas for telling what we now know to be the true facts about the virus. His sin on campus was that he “promoted a view of COVID that contradicts medical science.” Except that Atlas was right about the best methods to control COVID and the consensus was often WRONG. More than two years later, there’s been no official apology from the University.
Subsequently, Stanford has gone so looney “woke” that it has now adopted an “Elimination of Harmful Language Initiative” with a list of approved and verboten words to use on campus.
Here’s the delicious irony of this idiocy. Stanford has a half-century-long statement on academic freedom that states: “Expression of the widest range of viewpoints should be encouraged free from institutional orthodoxy and from internal and external coercion.”
At Stanford, that “wide range of viewpoints” to be encouraged spans all the way from the left to the far left.
Here are some highlights of a panel we recently held with Atlas at the US Capitol:

4) The Public Transit Debacle: Billions More Dollars To Fund Fewer And Fewer Riders
With millions of people still not wanting to go back to the office in urban areas, public transit ridership has plummeted by 35 percent and shows no sign of rebounding anytime soon.

5) Oh, Canada
It’s been almost a year since Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau assumed never-before-used powers to freeze the bank accounts of truckers protesting his COVID lockdowns. He also banned travel to protest sites, and forced trucks to tow vehicles at the protests.
A Royal Commission just finished months of hearings on whether or not the government’s actions were legal. Police agencies have testified that emergency powers weren’t necessary to end the protest. Senior government officials were shown to have also harbored real doubts.
Voters are reacting to the Commission's work, even before it issues its final report. A new Mainstreet poll finds a clear majority oppose Trudeau's use of Emergency Act powers, with over 15 percent who once supported it changing their minds.
Even more striking, the poll shows young people under the age of 35 strongly leaning toward Pierre Poilievre’s Conservative Party over Trudeau's Liberals.
Belatedly, it appears that support for civil liberties is making a comeback in our northern neighbor.
