John,
After a year of tough midterm fights, one thing hasn’t changed: Republicans are still completely controlled by the extremists in their ranks.
Twenty MAGA Republican congressmembers held the proceedings of the new Congress hostage yesterday, failing to elect a new Speaker of the House on the first ballot for the first time in a hundred years.
Many of these same authoritarian Republican members of Congress took part in efforts to violently overturn the will of the people in the insurrection on January 6th two years ago.
Yesterday's Republican dysfunction meant all 434 members of the House of Representatives are still waiting to be sworn in to office — including all of our newly elected WFP champions. But try as they might to derail our government, we’re standing strong, and we’ll be ready to go.
While we wait for House Republicans to learn how to function, we wanted to take a minute to re-introduce and celebrate our newly elected WFP champions. Sign our card here to welcome them to Congress.

Greg Casar from Texas’s 35th Congressional District is bringing his experience passing policies to protect families from being separated, raising wages for thousands of workers, and successfully fighting to expand civil rights protections to Congress.
Delia Ramirez of Illinois’s 3rd Congressional District will be the first Latina congresswoman from the Midwest, and is an accomplished social service director, community leader, and coalition builder who has dedicated her life and career to advocating for working families.
Maxwell Frost in Florida’s 10th Congressional District will be the first Gen Z member of Congress, and is committed to ending gun violence, winning Medicare For All, transforming our racist criminal justice system, and ending the climate crisis to build a better future for us all.
Summer Lee is a proven state legislator and dedicated organizer, activist, and advocate for social justice about to take office for Pennsylvania’s 12th Congressional District, to bring bold solutions to our biggest crises.
Becca Balint, the next Congresswoman At-Large for the state of Vermont, has fought for working people her entire life as a parent, a public school teacher, and president of the state senate.
Jasmine Crockett will be representing the people of Texas’s 30th Congressional District after fighting injustice as a public defender, civil rights attorney, and state representative.
Will you join us in welcoming these champions to Congress? Sign the card to let them know you have their backs when the new 118th Congress (eventually) begins.

Congress will be better, bolder, and more dedicated to working people with leaders like these in it, as well as all of the people-powered candidates we endorsed who won re-election last year.
But while the midterms may be over, our work is not. In 2023, our WFP champions in Congress will be fighting harder than ever to:
-
Protect and expand freedom and justice for everyone, including the freedom to have an abortion, the freedom to vote, racial justice, economic justice, and environmental justice.
- Pass policies that ensure that every person has what they need to thrive, like high-quality health care, affordable housing, good-paying jobs that treat you with respect, and more.
- Hold the wealthy and powerful accountable for their actions, and make sure they pay their fair share.
If you’re excited for all that we can achieve together this year, and in the years to come, welcome our newly elected WFP champions to Congress by signing the card now!
In solidarity,
Team WFP
