Hi friend,

California has some of the most ambitious climate goals in the world — but setting goals isn’t enough.

We also have to meet those goals, and recent reports show that we need to quadruple our pollution reduction to even have a chance at reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2045.

To lower carbon emissions as quickly and equitably as possible, we have to start with our biggest source of pollution: our transportation system.

While California is set to shift to 100% new zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) sales by 2035, we also have to transition what’s actually being driven on the road, starting with disproportionately polluted communities.

We are looking to our Governor and State Legislature to lead the way and create a revenue path forward on climate action. Please, will you sign a petition to urge our California leaders to prioritize climate action in 2023?

Reports show that it will cost $150 billion to transition our transportation system. Prop 30, the ballot measure that was defeated in November, would have provided about $80 billion over 20 years to close the gap between our clean transportation goal and the cost of achieving it.

This year’s historic $54 billion climate budget includes a $6.1 billion commitment to ZEV transition over the next five years. Building on last year’s $3.9 billion, our state has only committed $10 billion to this effort since the announcement of a 100% ZEV sales goal two years ago.

Even with the clean transportation tax credits and funding outlined in the Inflation Reduction Act, we still have a gap of more than $100 billion between secured funding and what it’s going to take to transform our transportation.

Friend, now that you know the truth about this critical gap in funding, will you sign our petition to make climate a core part of the budget?
