As the Senate impeachment trial begins, the power of the people demanding Trump/Pence #OutNow could change the whole equation.
Come to D.C. for the Womens’ March on Saturday January 18 and STAY for the impeachment trial.
As we write this, Democrats in the House are moving to send the articles of impeachment to the Senate, charging Trump with abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. It’s expected that the Senate trial of the fascist criminal Donald Trump will begin THIS WEEK!
Although the articles of impeachment do not address Trump’s many crimes against humanity—banning Muslims, separating families, horrific concentration camps, inciting racist mass murder, destruction of the environment etc—they DO address core elements of Trump’s fascism…his efforts to wield king-like executive authority, trampling on the Constitution and the rule of law, disregard for the integrity of elections. All this matters greatly for humanity. It is very good that Trump was impeached in the House. Now he must be convicted and removed! And beyond that, his whole fascist regime must be ousted.
In this tumultuous moment, with the eyes of the world on D.C., will there be a growing force on the ground, exercising the power of the people to demand Trump/Pence #OutNow! As this trial unfolds in unpredictable ways, if there are growing numbers of people protesting and speaking out, letting the world know the truth: that Trump is a imminent threat to humanity, that we can’t rely on elections to stop a fascist regime like this, but must take to the streets in mass, sustained, nonviolent protest… THAT could make all the difference.
It is very good that the Women’s March is happening in the midst of this impeachment trial. We will be mobilizing a big #OutNow contingent for it this Saturday! But we need more than one day of protest. Imagine if people flooded the streets of D.C… and kept coming back again and again. At a time like this, our actions can help create the crisis that forces this nightmare regime from power.
Let’s seize the moment and the spotlight, and make history. If not us, who? If not now, when?
