For the first time in 100 years, the House failed to elect a speaker in the initial vote, as Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) came up well short of the 218 votes needed to secure the speakership. |

Their decision upheld the policy of the school board in St. Johns County, Florida (St. Augustine), which was challenged by a student who identifies as transgender. |
