Dear Friend,
On behalf of all of us here at the Young Center – our staff, board, volunteers, and the children we serve – I want to thank our generous community of support for all you have done this past year to help further our mission of advancing immigrant children’s rights.
The work of building a more just, more humane, and more equitable immigration system for all, and especially for children, does not exist in isolation. If anything, it requires that each of us to see that immigrant justice cuts across all areas of justice. For a child fleeing climate catastrophes, immigrant justice is also climate justice. For a pregnant teen held in immigration custody and in need of reproductive care, immigrant justice is also reproductive justice. For a trans migrant facing persecution for their identity, immigrant justice is also LGBTQ justice. And at the heart of each of these issues is also the fight for racial justice, as Black and Brown communities remain disproportionately threatened by systemic racism, institutional barriers, and restrictive government policies our society is grappling with today.
The new year is generally a time of quiet optimism and hope for what is to come. What fuels our hope is YOU – our community, our supporters, our partners. Your support is an investment in the children most directly impacted by these issues; your support is an investment in the community building required to advocate for better policies.
Thank you to each and every one of you for not only being part of our community but investing in it as well - with your dollars and your voice.
