Team: The House was supposed to swear in the 118th Congress yesterday. Instead, chaos ensued. While House Democrats voted unanimously to elect Rep. Hakeem Jeffries as House Democratic Leader, MAGA Republicans spent the afternoon fighting over who should lead their party. Ultimately, they held three votes – failing to nominate a Speaker each time. After years of empowering the most extreme members of their own party, fringe Republicans are holding up the new Congress from being sworn in AND stopping critical legislative work from beginning. This is simply unacceptable. Democrats are bringing common sense to Congress – Republicans are bringing chaos. Now that conservative extremists have thrown the Republican Party into disarray, this is our best shot to show just how strong Democrats are.
