Join the Crisis and Dementia Workgroup for a Virtual Community Conversation

The team working on the next Wisconsin Dementia State Plan wants to hear from you.

The Wisconsin Dementia State Plan provides a road map to help Wisconsin improve the quality of life for thousands of families affected by Alzheimer?s disease and related dementias and to minimize the public and private costs of these devastating conditions.?

Your opinion matters. The team invites you to join them for a community conversation help them assess needs of people in crisis and help build a dementia care system that works for everyone.

The community conversation will be held over Zoom.?

*January 20: 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

The following questions will be explored in the community conversation.


* The legal landscape following Helen E.F. presented barriers in access to mental health care for people with dementia. In what ways has your organization worked to overcome legal challenges? (Helen. E.F. is the 2012 Wisconsin Supreme Court decision limiting people with a primary dementia-related disorder from being committed under Wis. Stat. ch. 51)
* What steps has your agency taken towards improving crisis intervention and crisis services to people with dementia experiencing a behavioral crisis? Please include steps taken toward (1) developing a uniform system of dementia-related crisis response across disciplines and (2) prioritizing treatment and crisis management in place.
* If an emergency placement facility could be developed to best meet the needs of people with dementia in crisis, what services or facility amenities would be needed to successfully meet the needs of clients and families?
