Monthly Newsletter Doorways Announces Executive Transition A special message from Carmen Oviedo, Board President Dear Doorways supporters, I am writing to share that Caroline Jones, Doorways’ President and CEO, will be leaving the organization in February. On behalf of the Board of Directors and everyone at Doorways, we sincerely thank Caroline for her 17 years of service to our mission. Under Caroline’s direction, Doorways has become a leading provider serving the needs of Arlington County residents. She has led critical enhancements to Doorways’ response, developing top-quality, high-impact programs and services delivered with a high level of integrity, fiscal responsibility and transparency. As a community leader and advocate, Caroline has built strong community partnerships, facilitating increased collaboration among safety net partners to best serve our clients. Caroline’s legacy here at Doorways is that of safety, stability and empowerment for thousands of survivors, youth and families, as well as the vital, dependable resource that this organization is today. Doorways is well-positioned to continue building on this strong foundation moving forward. As long as there are members of our community in crisis, we will continue to help our neighbors overcome the traumas of homelessness and abuse in our community. Lower-cost options include home-based centers (about $17,000 annually) and nanny shares ($20-$25 an hour, divided among participating families). The conundrum affordable housing poses for the nation "After purchasing essentials, including food, clothing and utilities, the families have little left to cover the cost of health care, bridge the gap during a change in jobs or bear an unforeseen bill of any amount." Read more. The 'me too' movement's success took a decade of work, not just a hashtag. And there's more to do. "The 'me too' Movement is an iteration of a decades-old fight to end sexual violence, but what makes it so different, powerful and effective is that it speaks to the needs of all survivors. It addresses sexual violence as a systemic issue — and it explains how other systemic issues, such as anti-black racism, capitalism and classism, poverty and housing impact survivors. It also provides space for survivors to lead us in the right direction." Read more. To teach young kids the concept of consent, focus on bodily autonomy "Children are some of the most powerless in our culture.
