Today is swearing-in day at the United States Capitol, and I get the privilege of standing before God and the country to swear to defend the Constitution and this great nation as your Senior Senator. Yet, I know this day is not about me and my family, it is about all of us and our hopes and aspirations for the greatest nation on earth.

You gave your time and treasure to help us during the campaign last year -- thank you. We would not stand here if you did not stand with us last year.

Thank you for your trust and your passion for our nation. We walked with you in parades, shook hands at events, and traveled to every corner of our beautiful state together. Thousands of people gave financially to help us run positive campaign commercials to help set a new standard and call our state to better ideas for the future. For all the people who put signs in their yards, knocked on doors in the hot sun, and encouraged friends to get out and vote -- thank you!

My family understands well that we speak for millions of Oklahomans who want Washington to work for the people of this nation. It is our desire to bring our Oklahoma common sense to a nation that is crying out for solutions.

America is worth fighting for.

Washington does not change the country; the country changes Washington. So, I also want to encourage you to personally set the example for what our nation can become at your work, school, and neighborhood. We are a great nation, not because we have great leaders but because we have great people. We are at our best when we each live what we believe in practical ways. Washington will be less angry and divisive when our nation is less angry and divisive. Our nation will return to faith when individuals return to their faith. We will solve big, difficult problems as a country when we work with others to solve difficult problems at home. Oklahomans can set that example for the nation. Let us do that together today.

Thank you again for trusting our family to represent our values in our nation’s Capitol.
