As you may know, House members-elect are voting for the next Speaker of the House. For the first time in 100 years, a Speaker has not been chosen on the first ballot. House Republicans are more interested in petty infighting and naked ambition than working for the people.
While Republicans fail to get their act together so that we can work together to confront the great challenges we face, Democrats are united. We’re ready to get to work in the 118th Congress on the issues that matter most to you.
I’ve been so proud to represent you and the people of Ohio. And while we have accomplished so much, I know there is a lot more for us to do together.
Governing is not always glamorous – and today makes that clear. Voting for leadership and crafting, amending, and passing legislation is a grueling process that requires the dedication and patience my parents instilled in me. It involves identifying the needs of a community and then fighting hard to bring back the resources needed to help our region thrive.
From funding for job training in our schools or constructing the World War II Memorial, to securing funding for a vegetable garden at a senior housing complex and holding back the Asian carp’s invasion of the Great Lakes, no project can be too small or too daunting.
I’m ready to get to work in the new year, and I’m glad you’re on my team alongside me as we work to deliver for Northern Ohio.
