Happy first day of the 118th Congress, John!
Today is a transformative day for our democracy and our government and I am proud to be at the forefront of our collective fight for our progressive values.
I would not be afforded this opportunity or this platform without you, John. Your support has allowed this movement to grow exponentially, and I know that with you on our side we will be able to achieve even greater wins for working people this year.
My promise to you is that I refuse to waste a single day in the fight for climate justice, reproductive rights, economic and social justice, a Green New Deal for Public Schools, and so much more. While this fight will be hard and long, I know that we have a clear opportunity to channel our united voice and create real, long-lasting change for the better.
Last year, we moved mountains to ensure that our voices are heard and our needs are met — but we also faced intense pushback from conservative Democrats and Republicans who have committed to profits over people. We must make it known that there is no space for greed, racism, sexism, or xenophobia in this new era of legislation. Enough is enough.
Today, and every day moving forward, we all must reaffirm our commitment to fighting for working people by breaking down the pillars of injustice and inequality that have upheld our government for generations. True power lies with the people, and this year I will ensure that all of our voices are heard, respected, and valued in our government.
Peace and love,
Jamaal Bowman
