[1]Cheri Beasley for North Carolina

Happy New Year, friends! We’ve had quite a year!! After taking the last few weeks to rest, to call friends and supporters like you (with still more calls to go!) and to spend time with family, I’ve heard from many of you asking what I’ve been up to or what’s next — so I thought I’d drop you a note.

Over the holidays, I’ve spent valuable time with family and friends. My family and I have enjoyed holiday gatherings and remembered those less fortunate. Curt and I spent Christmas with our sons and extended family. I hope you have been able to spend time with your loved ones for the holidays as well to recharge for the year ahead.

On Saturday night, I watched the acorn drop in Raleigh with Curt as we toasted to a new year filled with joy, love and purpose. We also reflected on the year that was 2022, and while we had hoped for a different election result, I will always cherish our collective commitment to our state and nation. I truly appreciate the outpouring of support from people like you from all over.

I am deeply grateful for everything you did, and I know that our state is better for it. Because of what we accomplished together, I am even more committed to fighting for our families and small businesses. As I said on Election Day, I am disappointed but not defeated. I am committed to the fight for the people of North Carolina, democracy and justice.

Truthfully, I don’t know what is next for me. I’ve had the honor and privilege of serving our great state for over 20 years. I appreciate all of the encouragement and ideas, but for now, I am taking this moment to appreciate the journey.

Progress in this country has never been easy. It takes time. And always in the face of injustice and adversity, we have continued to fight. The new year is a great opportunity to renew our commitment to serving our state and honoring each other’s humanity.

North Carolina and her people are worth fighting for, and I look forward to continuing that work together.

Thank you again for everything, and have a very Happy New Year!

With gratitude,

- Cheri Beasley
