We won’t end extreme poverty without combating corruption. A favorite tool of
corrupt leaders is anonymous shell companies that cast a veil of secrecy over
criminal activity.

John, help us fight corruption by demanding transparency in this
industry.

We know that corruption kills by keeping people in the world’s poorest
countries trapped in a vicious cycle of poverty. Corruption and the secret
companies used to hide it are robbing African countries of billions of
dollars they need for healthcare, education, and food.

Thankfully, there’s an easy and effective way to stop this: all
governments must require that the true owners of such companies be
disclosed.

Right now, there is legislation in the Senate, S. 2563 the ILLICIT CASH
Act, that would give law enforcement and financial institutions the
information needed to stop these criminals from siphoning resources away
from poor countries and into personal bank accounts in the U.S..

This past October, a companion bill to this legislation passed in the
House of Representatives. This means we only need to convince the Senate
to take action.

Sign our petition urging your U.S. Senators to support this commonsense
legislation and help fight corruption.

The petition reads:

Dear U.S.
Senators,

Corruption kills. It enables bad actors to siphon away money from some of
the world’s poorest countries that could otherwise be used to improve and
even save people’s lives.

Please support S. 2563, the ILLICIT CASH Act, a commonsense bill that
would put an end to company ownership secrecy, ensuring our financial
system is not abused by criminals to launder money from those who need it
most.
