John, today I’m being sworn in to the 118th Congress! While this is my third time being sworn in, each time I’m reminded of what my former professor Elizabeth Warren taught me: nobody gets elected alone.
I always think about everyone who made this possible—from volunteers to donors to voters. Sending a Democrat from purple Orange County to Congress (who also happens to be a minivan-driving single mom!) was something many people deemed impossible just four years ago.
This will be my first term being in the minority party. That means Republicans have control over what bills we vote on and much of our committees’ agenda. But I'm going to continue my work holding big corporations accountable for cheating consumers, boosting transparency in government, and lowering costs for families. My job is to use whatever mechanisms I have to deliver for California families.
