Thank you for joining us — you’re transforming lives |
Dear Friend, Thank you for joining Mercy Corps’ global community of supporters — your compassion makes our work possible. As Mercy Corps’ Chief Executive Officer, I want to personally welcome you to our global community of humanitarians. You’ve made the choice to be a part of something bigger than yourself, and we’re so grateful to have you onboard as we work together to build a better world. From poverty and hunger to natural disasters and violent conflict, it’s easy to see a world full of insurmountable challenges. But at Mercy Corps, we see the power of human potential and the possibility of transformative change. When others are suffering, caring people like you don’t hesitate to act. Working together as a global community of changemakers, we empower people in more than 40 countries to recover from crisis, build better lives and strengthen their communities from within. Here are just a few examples of what Mercy Corps supporters make possible: Mercy Corps helping Syrian families Millions of families in Syria and neighboring countries are living in limbo, waiting for peace and a chance to resume work, school and normal daily life. For years, Mercy Corps has been delivering humanitarian aid to civilians in Syria’s hardest to reach areas and to the over 5 million refugees living in neighboring countries. Each month our team members and local partners work to help hundreds of thousands of children and families heal from the trauma of war and rebuild stronger lives. Mercy Corps fighting famine Famine is the most severe form of widespread hunger, and it’s currently threatening 20 million lives in Africa and the Middle East. Families are facing hunger, starvation and even death in places like Niger, DR Congo, South Sudan and Yemen. Mercy Corps is on the ground in all four countries providing urgently needed food, water and sanitation supplies. Our team members are working hard to reach as many people as possible — helping communities stave off hunger and children and families survive. Mercy Corps providing relief from natural disasters Where the world needs us, we’re there — before, during and after a natural disaster. Mercy Corps has responded to almost every major global disaster in the last 20 years, providing more than $570 million in lifesaving aid in the last five years alone. From Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico to tsunamis in Indonesia, our teams responded and offered a critical lifeline. Beyond delivering emergency supplies, we work with affected communities long after the crisis to ensure they have the resources they need to build back even stronger. Mercy Corps building better tomorrows We take on the world’s toughest challenges with bold approaches — always with the intention of connecting people to opportunities that strengthen their community. That’s why we invest in agricultural resilience, gender equality, peacebuilding and technology. In Mongolia, where 70 percent of the pastoral land has been degraded by the changing climate, Mercy Corps developed a mobile messaging system so herders can access real-time weather information to keep their livestock alive. We help people create solutions to the specific risks they face, because we know their lives depend on it. When we come together, our global community of humanitarians has an incredible impact. Over almost four decades, our work has helped more than 220 million people survive emergencies, recover from crisis and build back even stronger. There’s still much to be done. With a record 68.5 million people displaced by ongoing crises in Syria, Yemen, Nigeria and beyond, the number of people urgently in need of food, safe shelter, clean water and more is great — and may well continue to grow. But I know this is a challenge we can solve — if we work together. You can help right now. Start making an impact by pledging to stand with Mercy Corps and children and families in need around the world. Then, share it with your friends and family to inspire them to join us in making change possible. ACT NOW: I stand with Mercy Corps and children and families in need around the world. Thank you for joining Mercy Corps. I’m so glad to have you with us. Sincerely, Neal Keny-Guyer, Mercy Corps CEO |
