Pembrokeshire and Yorkshire Dales projects win big at 2019 Park Protector Award

After an incredibly strong competition, this month saw us crown the SWEPT project winner of the 2019 Park Protector Award at a special reception in Parliament.

SWEPT is taking on the huge challenge of agricultural pollution in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park by using volunteers to measure pollutants in the water of the National Park.

This year marked the first time Campaign for National Parks has worked with Defra to deliver a second prize. People and the Dales, a project introducing underrepresented groups to the Yorkshire Dales National Park, took home the Year of Green Action Award.

Have you visited Northumberland National Park? We’ve teamed up with Northumberland National Park Authority to put on a special exhibit exploring the history of the National Parks movement at The Sill: National Park Discovery Centre.

Marking the 70^th anniversary of the National Parks, visitors can enjoy 3D holograms, a virtual reality experience and a special film by Campaign for National Parks, featuring interviews from our oral history project.

Tony Gates, Chief Executive of Northumberland National Park Authority said: “We’re delighted to be working with Campaign for National Parks in celebrating the 70th Anniversary with this very special exhibition in a truly world-class location at The Sill”.

Glover’s interim findings welcomed

Letters between Julian Glover and Michael Gove released by Defra this month set out exciting updates to the Glover review of England’s designated landscapes.

In the letter Mr Glover, who has led the comprehensive review of the role and purposes of England’s National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB’s), details a number of interim findings that reflect Campaign for National Park’s recommendations to the review.

Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall join 70^th anniversary celebrations

Hundreds of picnickers celebrated 70 years of National Parks at a special event in Exmoor during July. The event saw Their Royal Highnesses, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, meeting well-wishers and enjoying a specially commissioned cake.

The event also featured a special sneak preview of our film exploring the history of National Parks – fronted by our president Caroline Quentin. The film gives a voice to those pioneering campaigners who led the fight for the landscapes you love!
