We’re excited to start 2023 off right with a joyous start to a new year. Our resolutions are the same every year – elect as many Dem AGs as possible and continue to provide support to our candidates and AGs, so they can fulfill their role as the People’s Lawyer.
In 2022, DAGA followed through on our New Year’s promises. We defeated election deniers, had historic flips and victories, and helped our candidates make a difference on several fundamental issues. We know sticking to New Year’s resolutions can be tricky. So we wanted to share our advice for achieving New Year’s goals...
Here’s how we've set ourselves up for success in years past when working hard to achieve our goals:
Find Support – When working on new goals, we think it helps to have a friend to lean on, and we do just that for Dem AGs. We provide campaign support and a space for policy collaboration, so they can be victorious on Election Day and focus on creating change in their states. We make it easier for Dem AGs to collaborate and take on the crucial issues of our time like abortion access, voting rights, environmental protections, and more.
Plan Ahead – Making a plan is exactly how we succeeded in telling our AG candidates’ stories and issue areas this year. We knew what mattered to Americans this past year and what areas of the country we could make a difference in — then we set our plan in motion by building out strategies to communicate our AG candidates’ messages to voters in their states.
Be Specific – The more specific you are about your objectives, the easier it is to achieve them. For example, we only support candidates who will protect abortion rights, democracy, and fulfill the duties of the Attorney General with integrity. The quality of a candidate – their experiences, motivations for change, and issues they care about – matters when it comes to success at the ballot box and driving progress.
Incremental steps are okay! – We want to remind you that it’s ok to start small with your goals. DAGA began as a tiny part-time committee meeting around a kitchen table that now makes a difference in competitive state-level races throughout the country every year. Grassroots support was essential to our success and growth and we hope you’ll continue to be a part of the impact DAGA makes.
Democratic AGs truly are “The People’s Lawyers” and DAGA is the only party committee devoted to electing more of them. Since 2016, we’ve won two-thirds of our targeted races, and we can't stop now – will you chip in today?
