Dear John,
Happy New Year! Like many of you, we have big goals for 2023, and we’re resolute in our commitment to building a better democracy. So how are we going to make that happen this year? We believe 2023 to be:
The year of youth leadership.
The midterm elections saw a wave of young candidates run for — and win — public office across the country. Pragmatic candidates outperformed extremists. Voters proved there is a winnable coalition that wants to support candidates who prioritize substance and results over vitriol.
But Election Day is not a finish line, it’s a starting line. The success of our democracy can’t be measured by Election Day results. MAP and young leaders across the country are showing up for the 700+ days of governing in between elections that are the fabric of our civic health. We invite you to join us.
What happens next is about leadership, and MAP is in the business of catalyzing good leaders. MAP’s Future Caucus leaders are preparing for the 2023 legislative session in their respective states. And scores of newly elected, young legislators will be joining their coalition of problem solvers.
How is MAP preparing to harness this positive momentum headed into 2023?
We’re launching a nationwide “On the Rise” [[link removed]] tour to celebrate the big ideas young people are bringing into their statehouses. Each tour stop focuses on preparing our state-based Future Caucuses to transcend toxic polarization and achieve future-oriented policy goals in 2023 and invites local community members to be a part of the movement.
We already kicked off the tour in Arkansas— where 40 Millennial and Gen Z legislators will be sworn in to the legislature this month. We will soon be visiting Georgia, Vermont, Kansas, and many more states in the months to come. Follow along to see updates from the tour!
All of this work is possible because of you. Because of your help, we are building a movement and growing MAP’s work with legislators across the nation. Together, we can create more opportunities for true collaboration in our growing network of state and congressional lawmakers!
Onward,
Team MAP
