Get Ready for Governor Holcomb's
State of the State Address
Looking Back on 2019

Good evening!

Tomorrow (at 7 p.m. ET), Governor Eric Holcomb will deliver his fourth State of the State Address. As we’ve done the last few days, today we’re taking a look back at one of Eric’s previous State of the State Addresses. Putting People First and delivering results matter to this governor, and he’s delivered every year he’s been in office.

Below is a sampling of the big goals and big results he laid out and won for Hoosiers in his 2019 address.

Governor Holcomb’s 2019 State of the State Address: January 15, 2019:

Goal: “I will once again pursue exempting military pensions from our state income taxes so we can attract and retain talented patriotic veterans.”
* Result: Veterans will no longer pay state taxes ([link removed][UNIQID]) on retirement income, fully effective by 2024.

Goal: “The internet is just as essential to our prosperity today as highways were a century ago, and we have far too many Hoosiers without access to affordable high-speed broadband.”
* Result: Governor Holcomb announces first $28.4 million (of $100 million) for broadband expansion. ([link removed][UNIQID])

Goal: “A strong economy depends on a world-class workforce. That workforce depends on a great education. A great education depends on great teachers.”
* Result: The Next Level Teacher Pay Commission ([link removed][UNIQID]) was created to find innovative solutions to make teacher pay more competitive. In addition, Governor Holcomb instructed the state to pay off $150 million in local school pension liabilities, which freed up funds to give teachers a well-deserved raise.

Goal: “Given the urgency around strengthening our workforce, we can’t afford to overlook anyone, especially those who want to earn a second chance.”
* Result: Governor Holcomb brings The Last Mile program ([link removed][UNIQID]) to Indiana’s Department of Correction, giving offenders the opportunity to learn new skills and reduce recidivism.

Goal: “I look forward to working with (the General Assembly), with moms and dads, and schools (on school safety) as the days ahead unfold.”
* Result: Historic education funding ([link removed][UNIQID]) includes $19 million for enhanced school safety.

Goal: “Indiana is one of five states that does not yet have a bias crimes law. It’s time for us to move off that list.”
* Result: Indiana now off the list ([link removed][UNIQID]) of states without bias crimes protection.

Of course, this is just a sampling of State of the State results Governor Holcomb delivered for Hoosiers in 2019. His full 2019 address can be read and viewed by clicking here. ([link removed][UNIQID])
